Chateau Fontaine obtained their name from proprietor Lucie Matthies’ middle name that was also a French immigrant who settled in the area. When Dan Matthies discovered the property back in the 1970’s, Chateau Fontaine was a deserted potato farm and cow pasture. Chateau Fontaine today has three vineyards; with the cow pasture totaling 22 acres of grapes. Their wines are available for tasting at the tasting room near Lake Leelanau, and Grand Traverse area.
