In 1976 Chateau Montelena made California a leader in the world of wine. Their 1973 Chardonnay won the best tasting white wine at a grand tasting in Paris. That not only proved that Chateau Montelena could produce some of the world's finest wines, it also made the California wine industry come of age. The winery is located in Calistoga, while their vineyards are in different appellations of the Napa Valley.
