Walla Walla Valley Wine Country
Located within the Columbia Valley Appellation, the Walla Walla Wine Country is approximately 530 square miles, and covers parts of both Washington and Oregon.
Over 15 million years ago the Walla Walla Wine Country experienced a series of colossal lava flows. Once the lava cooled, it eventually hardened into basalt bedrock. Sometime after this occurrence, cataclysmic floods inundated the Walla Walla Wine Country. Those floods were the result of the well-drained sand and silt that forms the soil of the Walla Walla Valley.
In addition to the soil that coats the valley, the climate in the Walla Walla Wine Country creates optimal conditions for viticulture. Located on the latitude 46°, the valley overlaps the lines between Burgundy and Bordeaux regions of France, which helps produce exceptional Merlot and Cabernets Sauvignon. |
